Richmond Music Festival - great results!

Hello Everybody,

every year World of Music and Arts' students participate in different festivals and competitions around the city.
During the last 2 weeks Richmond City was hosting a Richmond Music Festival, where kids compete with each other for the best performance.

I am very happy to congratulate WMA students and parents :) who participated in the competition and brought home great results:

Life skills - drama and speech art

While working at "World of Music and Arts" Richmond, BC as a head of Acing Program, Natalia is very active in city's theatrical community as an actress and an acting teacher. In March 2010 her students won two first place awards in CDMF (Coquitlam Festival) in Speech Arts Category presenting the best prepared and executed duologues. Natalia believes that integrating Stanislavsky's acting system is the key to her students` success, so therefore her programs at World of Music and Arts are tailored specifically to implement this method.

Life skills

“Speech arts” is “speech” or “arts”? What does this combination of words mean? You would be surprised to find out that it starts from your physical appearance and includes all other components of your body. You have to control your voice and manage your hands and arms and be ready for natural gestures linked to the context of the discussion. You have to avoid all unnecessary movements and maintain eye contact during the discussion.

The most important aspect is your voice quality. You have to speak with energy and clarity. It would be good if you could adjust the volume according to the demands of the situation. And at the same time you have to think, formulate and articulate your speech. This is a big challenge, or even stress for those who don’t know this basic technique.

For some people it's very easy. We call these people natural actors. But for the not so lucky, I'll tell a few secrets. One of them is this: think only about the subject of your speech. And breathe. But the most valuable secret is, speak slowly.

When you are young and ambitions, of course, you can receive impressive results that will affect your future. The results are important for everybody; but even if it's only your own small achievement – go for it. It is hard to believe that your life can be changed completely as soon as your speech becomes an art, but it’s true.

As a teacher of speech arts, I appreciate it when the student can show the results of his deep artistic implications at the end of the course. The explicit skills of artistic speaking, public address, research, and vocal clarity all affect and improve personal communication skills, and these improvements are for life.

Summer Camp - Acting, Theatre, Drama

"World of Music and Arts" is very happy to host an Artistic Development Summer Camp "Fairytale" for Kids 8-12 years old in Richmond, Steveston area, coordinated by our talented award winning Acting Instructor - Natalia Vasiluk. Please, read this blog for more information:

Who: Ages 8-12

Where: World of Music and Arts (Steveston Location)

What: Our weekly programs are designed to teach the child to gain a team player skill in the comfort of a small sized group by rehearsing a theatrical play (fairy tale). The day is filled with theatrical workshops, meditation and fun games. Weather permitting, some of the classes will be held outside. Every kid will participate in the closing performance, where parents and family friends are welcome to attend free of charge.You are welcome to enrol for more than one week, because every week we are staging a new fairy tale.

When: July 2010 ( 2 weekly sessions, choose one or both weeks)

Teaching piano to an adult student

I am usually not eager to accept adult students in my studio at World of Music and Arts in Richmond BC, since there could be a lot of issues later on. For instance, unlike children, adult students have nobody to supervise them in terms of regular practising and attending their lessons. I can foresee potential cancellations and missed lessons, which for me means irregular schedule and difficulty in creating a lesson plan.

Having said that, I enjoy immensely working with dedicated adult piano student who already achieved advanced level. I look forward to the exchange of the interpretational ideas and a discussion about different stylistic solutions for a musical composition.

Chess Club at "World of Music and Arts" Steveston, BC

Most of us know, that there is a certain system that in use when you teach a musical instrument. But what about chess? Is there a system in place that can help students to achieve great results?

“World of Music and Arts” chess instructor Konstantin Pyryaev works very hard and researches daily different systems in place. Soon, WMA chess club is going to implement North American rating system and become a part of National Chess Association. At this moment the administration is in the process of contacting the local chess clubs in order to host friendly games.

“The exposure to other chess clubs and the opportunity to compete will certainly add more fun and excitement to our regular lessons, as well as set new goals for each individual student as well as the team”, says Konstantin Pyryaev.

Hello everybody,

I would like to congratulate our acting teacher - Natalia Vasiluk with a double victory on Friday, March 5th. Her students received 2 first place awards at CDMF (Coquitlam Music Festival) in Dramatic Speech category. Both duologues were well prepared, and it clearly showed teacher's dedication and world class experience.

Besides being a great acting coach and preparing her students for competition, Natalia wrote an adaptation of famous "Alice in Wonderland" tailored specifically for her students. I am sure that it also played an important part in well deserved victory.

Talking to Natalia on the phone, on Friday, she sounded proud of her students and even more confident with her approach to acting. Also, we have discussed possible modifications and expansion of acting program at "World of Music and Arts" starting in new academic year. Our objective is to have several groups, based on different levels including a separate "Performance Group" aiming at a complete theatrical production of a play, as well as several preparatory groups. Bottom line, student will attend at least one of the preparatory groups and a "Performance Group" (2 times a week all together), completely covering all the bases of acting craft. At the same time, we will be forming a "WMA Talent Agency" opportunity, were (if interested) kids-actors will be available for
different movie productions in the city.

On behalf of "World of Music and Arts" I extend our appreciation to Natalia Vasiluk, as well as a monetary bonus for her extra efforts.

You are a big talent - you make me listen", he continued looking at a 7 year old. This was Christine's first competition, where she received a mark of 92% after playing piano for barely a year.
